About John, Chapter parliamentarian

Bio

John joined the USPS in 2020 as a rural carrier associate (RCA) with plans on a long term career with the Postal Service.  The pressures of the Covid crisis and the focus of the Delivering for America Plan solidified his resolve to be an integral part of the long term growth and success of this important service to the American people.

After graduating from Hanover College in Madison, Indiana with a BA in Biology, John spent 20 years in various sales & customer service positions quickly growing into supervisory roles. He can entertain you with stories from his diverse background like animal control officer, custom manufactured Tie Dyes, TV advertising, fiber optic cabling, and even tour bus driver.  John has a history of entrepreneurship with It Just Fitz- a promotional products business, Buddha Belly Bottling- a mobile packaging business for craft brewers, and Midwest Draft Solutions- a draft line service and installation business.

John wanted to learn how this organization worked from the last mile so he started as a Rural Carrier Associate in Martinsville, IN.  With a goal to be EAS, he searched out opportunities to go full time career as soon as possible, and took a PTF position in Washington state. Within a few months in Olympia, WA as a PTF, he took a district bid to a regular rural route in Anacortes, WA.  After 6 months as a regular carrier, he started as a 204b Supervisor in Stanwood, WA.  After just 2 months as a 204b, he was promoted to EAS as a supervisor of customer service position back home in Indiana. He worked with clerks, rural and city carriers in a large level 22 office then moved to a smaller level 21 APO office with 2 RMPO offices.  He was a trusted advisor to his manager/ postmaster and partners with employees to ensure operational success.

John’s background before USPS was always based in understanding customers to provide optimal customer service and value based sales.  He spent 2 years as a USPS territory representative out of Fort Wayne, IN and used research and focused questions to discover need. As a former small business owner, he understands the pressures and goals of all businesses to save money, make money, and reduce hassle and risk.

As a part of John’s journey to learn everything he can about the Postal Service, he is now working on the processing side of our business at the Indianapolis LPC as a supervisor of maintenance. He is highly motivated to grow and succeed at the postal service and UPMA is an important part of the success of this journey. His background in speech and debate and experience as a legal secretary bring practical skills to his new role as chapter parliamentarian. John hopes to help keep our board meetings productive and focus on maximizing benefits to the UPMA membership.
